7th Annual Dawson City International Short Film Festival

Who we are:

The Dawson City International Short Film Festival strives to present as diverse and eclectic a range of short films as possible. We also offer guest speakers, panel discussions and workshops. Dawson City is a colourful community of international residents in Canada’s northern Yukon Territory. We present up to 65 films over the three days of Easter weekend to an appreciative audience who make their way to the festival through snow and freezing arctic winds from across North America and beyond.

What we're looking for:

Short film or video.

  • Deadline for Entries: December 31st, 2007
  • Submission Format: VHS (NTSC, PAL & SECAM) or DVD format
  • Festival Projection Format:
  • can be 16mm film, VHS, DVD or MiniDV
  • Entry fees are $10.00 [CDN] for Canadian entries and $10.00 [US] for foreign entries
  • All insurance and shipping costs are the responsibility of the entrant
  • Festival dates: April 6, 7, 8, 2007

MITY Award (Made in the Yukon)

$1,000 cash, grip package ($1,000 value), Screening at Tromso International Film Festival, 1 ounce raw Klondike gold, and the MITY statue.

MITY Emerging Talent Award

First Place: $500 cash, 4 days equipment package, 40 hours editing, and the MITY statue

Runner-Up: $250 cash, 3 days equipment package, 30 hours editing

Honourable Mention:$100 cash, 2 days equipment package, 20 hours editing

Best Use of a Yukon Location

$250 cash.

Lodestar Award

1. A Star that is used as a point as a point of reference; especially, the North star.
2. A guiding principle, interest, or ambitition.

The Lodestar is awarded to the best Canadian or international film, which exemplifies the guiding principles of the art of independent short film/video making - freedom of expression, authenticity, exemplary artistry despite limitations, and clarity of vision.

ZeD Peoples Choice Award

First Place: $1,000 cash, and a sterling silver Festival pin.

Second Place: 1 ounce raw Klondike gold

Honourable Mention: raw Klondike gold

All international entries must have “For Cultural Purposes Only - No Commercial Value” clearly written on the outside of the shipping package. Due care will be taken in the handling of submissions, but the festival does not accept responsibility for damage or loss of materials submitted.
